Sewing was my passion, i could wake up and do it everyday, but now i find myself hobbyless, idle hands turning to *way too many* hours browsing the internet. Im pretty fed up with this bad habit, so ive been researching some new projects that don't require any expensive tools. The pictures link to their respective tutorials!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Tatting</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://totusmel.blogspot.com/2010/03/free-tatted-cameo-pattern.html"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://ny-image2.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.130303990.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">more categories after the jump!</div><a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ive always been very curious about tatting, i first heard of it when i was little from my grandfather, and was piqued because i couldn't imagine what kind of needle work could interest a man like him. The projects above are from the Anticraft and Totusmel. In case you want to be really crafty, or too lazy to seek out a proper craft store, here is a <a href="http://makelittlethings.blogspot.com/2010/07/tutorial-cheap-easy-plastic-tatting.html">tutorial for a tatting shuttle</a> as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Lately ive been obsessed with beaded pendants made from lots of tiny beads. They have a magical charm quality about them, it could also be because ive watched Rosemary's Baby too many times in the last few months >__< . Anyway the first two are free tutorials, from Anticraft and Lark Crafts, i had to search everywhere for a free beaded bead tutorial, Anticraft saved me again. The pearl one is just to victorian style classy, i would like to wear it with a nice one piece. The 3rd tutorial is available on etsy, a bit pricey for a pdf tutorial but her work is just too lovely. Unlike the Anticraft orb, her beads are hollow and form their shape as you go. When i have money to spare i would actually like to buy all her tutorials, this one (the disco ball) is my favorite but the others are just as pretty!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Hat Making</span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now i did title this post as for the sewing deficient, but i think hand sewing is best for headgear, and they are small enough projects to not take a lifetime. Like every fall/winter, my fondness for lolita has come out again and i think in lolita the accessories can make the outfit. This section is more difficult a little looser, more like a collection of inspiration and techniques than step by step tutorial. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><ul><li><a href="http://ophanimgothique.blogspot.com/p/bonnet-gallery.html">Ophanim Gothique bonnets</a>, really exquisite stuff by Caro of F*** Yeah Lolita. I would love to commision a piece from her, i especially love the blue one she made for Miss Lumpy.</li>
<li>Some tutorials on regency bonnets, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98vKEHfjOAA&feature=player_embedded">how to make a frame</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTcYejTlQ0I&feature=player_embedded">covering it</a></li>
<li>Another <a href="http://themerrydressmaker.blogspot.com/2011/08/regency-bonnet-tutorial.html">regency bonnet tutorial</a>, this one using the brim of a straw visor. I like the shape of the brim, i think you could make the back tighter, cover up the straw and add more decoration to make a lovely lolita style bonnet.</li>
<li><a href="http://forums.lolitafashion.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2676">This one</a> also uses a visor as a base, though i think this one probably has plastic or cardboard inside the fabric.</li>
</ul><div>Switching gears to other kinds of headgear. I think part of the appeal of these is most of them use such tiny amounts of fabric, you could use leftovers from all your dress' and always have a coordinating hat.</div><div><ul><li>Oh La La Plume has fascinator eyecandy as well as tutorials for <a href="http://oohlalaplume.wordpress.com/2011/08/30/how-to-make-a-basic-birdcage-fascinator/">birdcage</a> and<a href="http://oohlalaplume.wordpress.com/2011/09/15/how-to-make-a-bandeau-french-netting-fascinator/"> bandeau </a>veils</li>
<li>This is<a href="http://www.mistyillusions.org/marysew/?p=1056"> one of the best budget fascinators</a> ive seen, it has a cardboard base and you probably have enough scrap laying around to whip some up without making a store run.</li>
<li>This could be handy, <a href="http://bobbinsandbombshells.blogspot.com/2009/09/my-projects-veiled-feather-headband-diy.html">a veil with a headband base</a> that you can build more decoration on.</li>

<br />
So i finally got around to doing this, i documented my first day at my new school.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KOkYHRhN9Mc/TnZY7WdTjvI/AAAAAAAAAEg/FfSBFasCSOw/s1600/grid2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KOkYHRhN9Mc/TnZY7WdTjvI/AAAAAAAAAEg/FfSBFasCSOw/s400/grid2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ill explain them left to right, row 1 then row 2 etc.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1 - a shot from my bedroom window, its always so cloudy (and chilly <3) in the mornings here.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2 - lunch we had at Axis cafe, i got tomato basil soup and crab salad sandwich, with a peach soda!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3 - Down the main hallway of my school, i spend pretty much everyday here.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4,5 - In and around chinatown, looking for a peking duck house.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6,7 - whoops, these are out of order! 6 was taken on the bus going into school in the morning, its still cloudy! The next is coming home, the clouds have gone and its pretty hot.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">8 - A pretty neighborhood where the schools 2nd campus is</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">9 - Another form my window, nice warm afternoon light</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Day 17 - What do you want more than anything right now?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A new sewing machine, now that ive left home i only use the ones at school, but we aren't allowed to use them for personal projects. Its a reasonable policy, but now i have nothing to work with.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IWzYGyidtnM/TnZc6GprtQI/AAAAAAAAAE4/yFzG9QLdUBk/s1600/C360_2011-09-18+13-58-59_org.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IWzYGyidtnM/TnZc6GprtQI/AAAAAAAAAE4/yFzG9QLdUBk/s400/C360_2011-09-18+13-58-59_org.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I bought this great book on sewing at Kinokuniya, i really want to jump in, but i can't right now x_x.<br />
But on a more realistic scale, id really like an ice cream.<br />
<br />
Something else very exciting has happened as well, i won the giveaway on Moko Moko Love! I can't want to use the goodies, im trying to think where to hang the print now! Thank you, Sasa, best of luck to you.skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-30664098843987130002011-09-07T12:21:00.001-04:002011-09-26T00:51:41.933-04:00Giveaway!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQDsFYa3q3Y/Tmc_vA1vbQI/AAAAAAAACK4/WRMepEnrD20/s1600/isn%2527t+she+lovely+print.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQDsFYa3q3Y/Tmc_vA1vbQI/AAAAAAAACK4/WRMepEnrD20/s400/isn%2527t+she+lovely+print.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

EDIT: OH MY GOSH I WON!!! ^ U ^</div>skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-26013682078424216222011-08-28T16:09:00.000-04:002011-08-28T16:09:25.260-04:00Day 15 & Some DIY shoe tipsDay 15 - A picture of your last mori purchase.<br />
<br />
Ive already shared pictures of my last purchases in <a href="http://rats4candy.blogspot.com/2011/08/day-11-12.html">this post</a>, but ive sinced spruced up the burgundy flats. and i wanted to talk about the process.<br />
<br />
One of the hardest things about mori girl for me is the shoes, i often feel that the staples (flats, oxfords, boots) in my price range are too simple and bland! When i dressed "casual", my sneakers were often the highlight of my outfit, in cute pastels, silvers or gold. I like to wear statement shoes, but i can never afford them!<br />
<br />
Im never one to allow just <i>meh</i> items to linger in my closet, so i have a simple solution to boring shoes: diy! Adding little details to shoes can make them seem of a much better quality than they really are, ill illustrate it with these elastic strap flats.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zqveJPgaggI/TlqcT2ExxFI/AAAAAAAAAD4/d95wjDGq0M8/s1600/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-14-13_org.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zqveJPgaggI/TlqcT2ExxFI/AAAAAAAAAD4/d95wjDGq0M8/s400/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-14-13_org.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />
On the left is the plain one, to the right i added a leather arrow t-strap and painted the plastic sole gold. I got the idea for the arrow from a sandal tutorial on burdastyle, im a sucker for gold leather and arrows, so my heart was set on making a pair.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uju19nry1Nk/TlqcwRt6ChI/AAAAAAAAAEA/JcPC3INDJ6U/s1600/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-16-19_org.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uju19nry1Nk/TlqcwRt6ChI/AAAAAAAAAEA/JcPC3INDJ6U/s400/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-16-19_org.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Here you can see what a change a bit of paint on the sole does! It really adds a bit of special-ness, a one of a kind feel. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Dsa-MWLz8k/Tlqcwqo7ShI/AAAAAAAAAEI/RaXI1dhwYnY/s1600/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-31-09_org.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Dsa-MWLz8k/Tlqcwqo7ShI/AAAAAAAAAEI/RaXI1dhwYnY/s400/C360_2011-08-28%2B15-31-09_org.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Done! This is an extremely easy and quick way to add a high end feel to cheap items, if you have a boring staple piece, give it a makeover and its like buying a new pair, for *almost* free. Some of the things ive noticed that expensive shoes have (and cheap shoes lack) are:<br />
<br />
1. interesting linings<br />
2. detail on zipper pulls, buttons or buckles<br />
3. contrast stitching<br />
4. ribbon (as opposed to braided cotton) laces with detailed tassels or charms on the end<br />
5. soles done in a contrasting color or material<br />
6. treated leather (aged, distressed, coated etc.)<br />
<br />
Some of these are more easy to diy than others, notably 2, 4, 5 and 6. Just doing one of these small alterations can make a big difference in a shoe! I have a kmart pair of boots i wear almost everyday in the winter, but i aged them with shoe shine, switched laces for red ribbons, and painted the heel cap gold. Now everyone asks where i got them, such surprised faces when i say they are from the Big K.<br />
<br />
I hope this inspires you to give your blah shoes a makeover!skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-17857197627168818262011-08-25T09:25:00.000-04:002011-08-25T09:25:06.376-04:00Day 14Day 14 - A picture of your dream item.<br />
<br />
This ones a bit difficult for me, as i usually don't have specific pieces i want, only spots i know i need to fill. Right now i would love to have a easy to wear one piece, with half or longer sleeves and an aline shape. Right now i only have sleeveless, it would be great to have something i can just throw on and lightly accessorize when im in a hurry. <br />

This is my collection of Life Magazines Nature library books, by far my favorite nature item. Ive gotten them as presents, from thrift stores, im always on the lookout for a new one! I let friends who frequent thrift stores know, just in case they spy one i don't have. They have great pictures and really interesting diagrams, a pleasure to just leaf through or sit and read a random chapter.skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-19065703342476267732011-08-21T13:00:00.000-04:002011-08-21T13:00:12.641-04:00Day 11 & 12Im wanting to come back to day 11, my life is in boxes right now its not too interesting. But Id love to take a "day in the life" series just as soon as it goes back to normal. Meantime, ill just carry on.<br />
<br />
Day 12 - A picture of yourself before mori came into your life<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6210/6065989582_3c3f069e7c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6210/6065989582_3c3f069e7c.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><br />
I don't take many pictures of myself, i don't like to ask anyone to take an outfit shot for me and at the moment i don't have a full length mirror. But! I will have one in my new dorm room, its one of the perks, i think, of having to stay in an otherwise whitewashed grey tiled room. This was taken about 6 months ago, i went through a bit of a spank! phase with lots of pastels/neons/graphic b+w, I never really felt comfortable in it, i guess its too spunky for me :) I still really like to look at fairykei/popkei, but its not for me and i went back to vintage/mori style, this time more ready to dedicate to having more than 3 outfits!<br />
<br />
Ive found quite a few nice things in the shops lately, i took some pictures of my last minute haul.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--qY089aq2Rc/TlE1hmSjpsI/AAAAAAAAADQ/nvuVccZBYzQ/s1600/C360_2011-08-21%2B12-30-08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--qY089aq2Rc/TlE1hmSjpsI/AAAAAAAAADQ/nvuVccZBYzQ/s400/C360_2011-08-21%2B12-30-08.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This is from H&M, they have a lot of pieces this season that i would expect to see in a magazine like FUDGE; girly, quirky and with a bit of attitude. I've also seen a quality increase in their stuff, the socks are lovely and soft, each has a different weave pattern (there's supposed to be 3 pairs, the missing one is a chocolate brown with larger hole clusters) and they are much more durable than my socks from Urban Outfitters. The shirt is wonderful too, it has an exposed zipper in the back, and unlike my other shirt like this, they put a facing underneath the zipper to keep it from touching your skin and a tiny button to hold the facing in place! I don't see this kind of attention to comfort in much more expensive brands, i'm very happy with my buys, i just wish i wasn't on such a tight budget!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8cPT4URS_T4/TlE2-KStRFI/AAAAAAAAADY/e5HBdPoqvjU/s1600/C360_2011-08-21%2B12-32-19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8cPT4URS_T4/TlE2-KStRFI/AAAAAAAAADY/e5HBdPoqvjU/s400/C360_2011-08-21%2B12-32-19.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />
I'd been looking for comfy, easy to coord "school" shoes for a while, i finally settled on these at Target. They were cheap (under $20) and seem well constructed. The mocassins are part of a "back to school" collection and the ballet flats are from the girls section. They are both very comfortable, i love the attention to the lining detail, the moccasin fur has little dark brown and cream tufts and poke out and the floral lining is too adorable. I do think the flats are missing something, i may add a ribbon or lace tie to cover up the exposed elastic. <br />
<br />
<br />
To round up this post, i thought id share some shots i took at a local state park, it had been raining for days, but when the sun came out, so did lots of butterflies and hundreds of mushrooms!<br />
<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 15px;">Im not exactly sure what this means or how its different from things i hate, but i don't think i shy away from doing anything in mori. I migrated to mori from lolita because i was always too scared of ruining my clothes to really have a good time. In morigirl i always feel perfectly made up, not overdressed or underdressed, ready for anything. To me thats the best feeling ever!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 15px;"><br />
</span><br />

Im having a bit of trouble keeping up with it, im preparing to move all the way across the country to continue my education, but its an adventure and now i have a way to document and share it.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>-hiu yu. i think it may have been this picture that sent me on the mori way in the first place. Her outfits are always lovely, but her photography has the perfect atmosphere, an earthly ethereal-ity that (i feel) is the basis of mori girl. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://morigirls.livejournal.com/251475.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa390/saidaikouyakusuu/Outfit%20Dump/2011-03-03143739.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>-ninchu. Her scenic pictures of Japan and SM2 oufits are a perfect example of the simple, fuss free lifestyle a lot of mori girls dream of.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://rats4candy.tumblr.com/post/8032569878" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lo8kmznRZJ1qieyiyo1_500.jpg" /></a></div>-yu aoi. The number 1 model in mori girl, and for good reason. Her face and style is always youthful, but she has a wise and ageless quality to her. Shes been in spreads ranging from fur and leather clad nomads to off duty ballerina surrounded by cakes and stuffed animals, I think shes the public face of the fashion.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/73291805/blythe-outfit-blue-love-cat" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.240696460.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>-blythe. Okay, so technically she has no say in what style shes dressed in, but I often see her in adorable vintagey outfits like the one above. If she were a real girl i think she might wear a lot of the brand fellissimo and uuu...shooop.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<br />
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br />
<br />
<br />

3) Baby Blue - The Echoes<br />
4) AKA M80 the Wolf - Portugal. The Man<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://weheartit.com/entry/12044777" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="375" width="500" src="http://data.whicdn.com/images/12044777/633193_44hx73bfw5_large.jpg?1310821452" /> </a></div><br />
1. Apples - Apple pie, apple soda, apple candy, apple gelato, if its apple flavored, i probably love it. If i could, i would probably eat multiple apples everyday. Slightly chilled, crisp, juicy, with or without chunky peanut butter... I could on forever about apples, but ill stop at saying i love them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://weheartit.com/entry/10073871" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://data.whicdn.com/images/10073871/tumblr_llkzbv0x3P1qdtro1o1_500_large.jpg?1306206849" /></a></div><br />
2. Coffee - Another favorite flavor, i like most things with coffee in it. Ice cream, tiramisu, cake, even those elusive coffee flavored oreos, and of course the drinks. My favorite is probably a toss up between Vietnamese iced coffee and those oreos, i haven't found them in years.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlastras/4259276417/in/photostream/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2772/4259276417_68b3a61221_o.jpg" /></a></div><br />
3. Cambodian Tripe Soup and Blood & Rice Sausages - i cannot get enough of this stuff. Seriously, when my mother in law made some for a large family gathering, i didn't stop eating it. Its stinky with a fermented mudfish paste used in a lot of Cambodian cooking, but that just makes it easier for me to know when its cooking! I hope one day she will teach me how to make it myself for a family of my own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlebirds/4717166869/in/faves-emily-likes-owls/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l54ggq6rFA1qzm9yyo1_500.jpg" /></a></div><br />
4. Lemons - Another flavor obsession. If its lemon, i have to have it, it just makes everything better! If i buy a sweet drink, its probably lemonade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tambako/3119372622/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/3119372622_7e86143076.jpg" /></a></div><br />
5. Milk - To me milk is a delicious two sided coin. On one side, its like stealing baby food. On the other its so yummy and creamy, i can't resist it. Its even good to cleanse your skin and hair. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nyanything/3721830411/in/photostream/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="640" width="480" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3534/3721830411_3cfa52eace_z.jpg" /></a></div><br />
6. Bread + Jam - A favorite snack, few things can beat a toasty english muffin with butter and a chunky blueberry preserves. Im not a huge fan of apricot or orange marmalade, but any berry is much loved. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidlebovitz/1472221052/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1133/1472221052_460eac398a.jpg" /></a></div><br />
7. Bagels - This is probably one of the things ill miss most when i leave to California for school, this delicious boiled dough (also its brother, pretzel). Its the perfect breakfast canvas, ready to be filled with cream cheese and whatever other fatty toppings you desire. I love lox, but my boyfriend made up a heavenly sandwich with eggs, spicy pepperoni, swiss and cream cheese one day when i was sick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/dtk1Cstz5MHr-B1AOM_nXA?select=hbIZz3UXCx5y6PXDP9m6qg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://s3-media3.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/hbIZz3UXCx5y6PXDP9m6qg/l.jpg" /></a></div><br />
8. Crepes - Specifically green tea crepe, so good. I first tried it at a japanese restaurant in new york, and it was so good i wanted to go back even though the rest of the meal was pretty lousy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://weheartit.com/entry/6745451" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="373" width="500" src="http://data.whicdn.com/images/6745451/tumblr_lfv7deaKBv1qd9lrdo1_500_large.jpg?1296439984" /></a></div><br />
9. Ice Cream Sandwiches - I got the store bought ones every day on the way home from school when i was little, now i like to make my own versions with different kinds of cookies. <br />
<br />
10. Cold Chicken with Honey - Theres no picture for this, but so good i had to share. I was hesitant to try it when my friend made some up, but ive never looked back and during the summer i always eat leftover chicken this way. Its so simple, just tear the chicken up into shreds and drizzle with a bit of honey, it works best if the chicken was originally cooked with savory flavors over sweet. The best meal on a searing summer day.skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-47008882185303469852011-07-28T13:08:00.001-04:002011-07-28T13:10:37.973-04:00Mori Meme Day 3<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/36993397@N07/4148965199/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="500" width="326" src="http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lb23liDZN01qz6y3go1_400.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Day 2 – 10 things you hate in mori. (in no order)<br />
<br />
Theres only one thing that i dislike in mori, and its that the a-line smocky silhouette looks terrible on me X_X I love how it looks on models in the books, but i just can't do it with my figure. I prefer more tailored looks, so i translate it to mori by wearing a fitted top with looser high waisted bottoms, or wearing a belt to define my waist.skylure genavievehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08835466372139986845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-179100717713989454.post-60948126540396392092011-07-28T01:27:00.001-04:002011-07-28T13:11:03.119-04:00Mori Meme Day 2Day 2 – 10 things you love in mori. (in no order)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NGlQW2nQayc/TjDy4PDk6OI/AAAAAAAAADE/iUEZnXl4CP4/s1600/grid.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NGlQW2nQayc/TjDy4PDk6OI/AAAAAAAAADE/iUEZnXl4CP4/s320/grid.jpg" /></a></div><br />
-neutral + jewel tone outfits<br />
-the shoes & socks! I love wood heels sooo<br />
-animal and food motif, i love woodland animals, it reminds me of where i grew up.<br />
-polka dots<br />
-quirky handmade collections<br />
-felt, unbleached cotton, wool, silk, and fur!*I don't condone the use of new furs, the only ones i own are vintage, older than my mother. The way i see it, if more people didn't just throw away these furs of already dead animals, no more would have to die.*<br />
-i love that mori is just a general air and attitude, its style "checklist" is more a list of aesthetic lifestyle choices, not a rulebook on how you have to dress. <br />
-still feeling magical, i thought i might miss feelings like a princess when i stopped wearing lolita all the time, but now i feel more free to play and work like i know i want to.<br />
-vintage clothing <br />
-heres a weird one and a dirty secret: i love barely there eyebrows! unfortunately im a pretty dark brunette, so :X i dye em! Im not too attracted to the strong hollywood style filled in brow, so when i saw mori ads featuring pale brows even against black hair, i was all over it. <br />

An easy Sailor Collar TutorialHere it is, the two piece sailor collar tutorial! Before we get started i want to say that this is a tying collar! Many of the tutorials i found already published are one piece and do not have to be tied, that is they are sewn and tucked into the neckline. You can choose to either sew this to a garment or keep it detachable - i'll give tips for both! <br />
<br />
1) Gather up your materials. You will need:<br />
-basic sewing supplies<br />
-a basic top, a tshirt that fits you well in the shoulder is perfect. <br />
-large sheets of paper for pattern drafting<br />
-1/2 a yard of non stretch fabric, pressed <br />
-light weight interfacing<br />
**optional: small safety pins or broach pins to attach to a detachable collar<br />
-your choice of embellishments - im giving instructions for topstitched ribbons, but you could do buttons, embroidery, applique, anything.<br />
<br />
2)Iron your top so it is as flat as it can be, pay extra attention to the collar and shoulder seams. Trace the front and back of your top onto paper, you don't need to trace the whole thing, just down to about bustline, but about 10 inches of space beween the tracing and edge of paper. You'll need it to draw the front tie bit. It should look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lE4ZdpHCq0o/Ti97g9mclVI/AAAAAAAAACc/BlBIszojw7w/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="183" width="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lE4ZdpHCq0o/Ti97g9mclVI/AAAAAAAAACc/BlBIszojw7w/s320/2.jpg" /></a></div><br />
3) Now you'll be drawing your pattern pieces, on top of your tracing. Make sure the part where the two pieces will attach (pink arrows) are the same length. The Front tie piece (Piece A) should extend farther than you want it to end, to allow for tying. I made mine end a bit above my belly button so the tied length would be just below bustline. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8FzqcnEKnYk/Ti99Ub1kDcI/AAAAAAAAACk/lMkpI2aE0g4/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="183" width="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8FzqcnEKnYk/Ti99Ub1kDcI/AAAAAAAAACk/lMkpI2aE0g4/s320/3.jpg" /></a></div><br />
4) Add seam allowance to the pieces and cut them out. <br />
<br />
5) Layout the fabric and trace your patterns: 4 of A, and 2 of B. Lay out the interfacing and trace and additional 2 more of A and 1 of B. Iron the interfacing onto their fabric counterparts, so you have 3 interfaced pieces and 3 plain pieces.<br />
<br />
6) Sew the interfaced pieces together at the shoulder seam (pink arrows from picture above!) and press the seam open. You should have the "U" sailor collar shape, so cute! This interfaced one is the one you will be decorating. Repeat for the plain pieces.<br />
<br />
7) If you dont want a ribbon border, you can skip this step and go do whatever decorating stuff you would like, or just go to 8 and finish things for a plain collar. Take your interfaced piece and mark out on the right side where your ribbon will go. You can put the ribbon however far away from the edge as you want, but dont forget to account for seam allowance (ex. you made a 1/2" seam allowance and want the ribbon 3/8" away from the finished edge of the collar, then place it 7/8" away from the cut edge) I chose a simple overlap design for my ribbon, some people do corners, whatever floats your boat. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--roTBmwFqlg/Ti-FnR8B61I/AAAAAAAAAC0/cUJu6_k_R_g/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--roTBmwFqlg/Ti-FnR8B61I/AAAAAAAAAC0/cUJu6_k_R_g/s320/7.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Pin your ribbon in place, and topstitch. <br />
<br />
<br />
8) Almost there! Place the plain and interfaced pieces right side together, and sew along the allowance, leaving a space along the bottom edge of B to turn about 5" wide. Clip the corners and turn, using a knitting needle ( or some other blunt pokey thing) and your iron to press the edges crisp. <br />
<br />
9)If you are attaching this to a garment, your done! Handstitch the un-interfaced underside of the collar to the neckline of a finished dress/top. If you want to make a detachable collar, take your safety/broach pins, and attach them at these points to the collar: <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a9YhKoMM1Qk/Ti-JKsuAnJI/AAAAAAAAAC8/qX40vRNCnj8/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a9YhKoMM1Qk/Ti-JKsuAnJI/AAAAAAAAAC8/qX40vRNCnj8/s320/9.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This should keep it from sliding around on your neck since its neckline is pretty big. To tie this you can use a <a href="http://www.tie-a-tie.net/fourinhand.html">standard tie knot</a>. And thats it! I hope you enjoy your new collar, i know its a little late in the season for them, but at least you have time to make one in every color for next year!<br />
<br />
